Those who enjoy the wild and an exclusive and diverse safari experience, will want to travel Botswana. Vast tracts of Africa in pristine condition. Huge herds of game roam between the Kalahari's plains and the Okavango's waterways. Unlike in many countries, the movement of Botswana's wildlife is not restricted - a huge, fenceless wilderness around which the game roams freely.
The country is dominated by the Kalahari desert, its seasonal water sources and its vast salt pans. The most famous safari area is the Okavango Delta, rich array of wetlands and vast, varied ecosystems. Lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, leopard and cheetah are all to be found here, rhino have recently been reintroduced, and the camps and lodges are among the best in Africa.
Linyanti, Savuti and Chobe also offer fantastic wildlife experiences, particularly during the dry season between May and November. Makgadikgadi is worth visiting year round for its spectacular salt pans, Bushmen and meercats. Other desert areas such as Central Kalahari and Nxai Pan tend to be at their best in the green season from November to May, when the migratory herds pass through. Far away to the southeast, Thuli is a great game area, mostly accessed from and combined with South Africa.
