Mozambique

Mozambique is one of Africa's undiscovered jewels and offers stark contrasts from dry tropical arid land to unspoilt island paradises off the coast of the Indian Ocean. Though its beautiful Indian Ocean coast and islands have started to receive small numbers of visitors, its interior is still something of an adventure and well worth the effort.

Mozambique has three main National Parks - Transfrontier bordering South Africa's Kruger National Park in the South, Gorongosa in the center and Niassa in the North. While Transfrontier and Niassa offer wilderness rather than wildlife experiences, the wildlife in Gorongosa National Park has recovered amazingly well after years of civil war and the park's extremely beautiful and remarkably diverse habitats will soon make it once again one of the prime wildlife destinations in Africa.

Offshore, the most inviting features are its pristine islands of the Quirimbas and Bazaruto archipelagos with endless white beaches and only few small boutique lodges . The surrounding waters are filled with some of Africa's most unspoiled coral reefs and are havens for snorkelling and diving in crystal clear waters - seeing whale shark above and manta ray below. Experience oases of luxury pinned on the edge of the known world, perfect for family holidays, honeymoons and beach breaks.

Beyond stunning beaches and islands, Mozambique offers plenty to see, including the World Heritage site of Ilha de Mozambique with its rich colonial as well as slave trade history, charming colonial architecture and colourful local cultures. There are tiny villages where dhows are moored to mangrove trees, tailors sew dhow sails on old Singer sewing machines and children play football in sandy squares.

Nothing works like clockwork but if you want to explore a country before others discover it, Mozambique is the place for you. Our travel specialists recently travelled the entire length of Mozambique from Maputo to the Tanzanian border and will happily help you plan a tailor-made journey that will get you to the heart of this wild country before it becomes more widely known.
