Tucked away on a pristine island in the Indian Ocean, Funzi Keys appeals for its luxurious seclusion and beautiful scenery. Surrounded by water and superbly located on a west-facing beach with glorious views of the African sunset, this remote and exclusive hideaway is the place to escape from the outside world in style. Life at Funzi Island is relaxed and many guests do little more than unwind on the wooden deck of the free-form pool with a drink while watching the local fishing dhows sail by. The more energetic guests can enjoy sailing, creekfishing, windsurfing and canoeing or perhaps take a boat trip for a memorable glimpse of kingfishers, crocodiles and even dolphins. Funzi Island is also a good base for scuba diving in the Pemba Channel.
Kisite National Park offers some of the best snorkeling in Kenya. The excursion to Kisite on a traditional dhow starts from Shimoni, a small fishing village on the mainland, and takes around one hour, either by motor or by sail. On the way, guests often are welcomed by large groups of dolphins that are a delight to watch and possibly to swim with. Once you reach the National Park you can snorkel, dive or relax on one of the amazing sandbanks that become visible at low tide. You will then have lunch on Wasini Island where you also can visit a small fishing village before returning to Shimoni. Here, another point of interest are the slave caves where slaves were purportedly held prior to be transported to Zanzibar. The Pemba Channel between the mainland and Pemba is also one of the best places for deep sea fishing on the East African Coast.
Msambweni is a largely unspoiled stretch of beach edged primarily by private properties with colourful bougainvillea gardens. There are rocky outcrops, low cliffs and patches of coral on sandy bays.
