Borana
Hidden away in a remote valley next to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Laikipia, Borana has wide views of the Borana plains. It is a family hosted luxury lodge with creative interior decor that has a very personal touch giving it a very homelike feel. The sitting room with its fire place, warm walls, comfortable seats and colourful cushions is very cosy and perfect for relaxing and chatting while having drinks after dinner. The horizon swimming pool which seems to spill into the valley below invites the guest to take a dip, relax and view the landscape.
Accomodation is offered in eight imaginatively and individually designed rooms with terraces and ensuite bathtubs and showers. One of the rooms has its own private pool on the terrace from which guests can view game, watch and listen to the numerous birds as well as enjoy magnificent sunrises. Guests can do day and night game drives and bush walks, for example to Pride Rock which inspired the makers of the movie ""Lion King"". Borana is also particularly well suited as a base for guests who are interested in horse riding, which can range from half a day up to two weeks.

Deloraine
House
Deloraine House is
situated in the Rift Valley
on a large property surrounded
by beautiful gardens. It was
built in 1920 by Lord Francis
Scott, a prominent early settler,
and is now the home of Tristan
and Cindy Voorspuy. Accommodation
is offered in four double ensuite
rooms and two doubles in an
adjacent cottage. The house
is often used by guests on riding
safaris which are led by Tristan
and his team.

El Karama Ranch
El Karama Lodge is a rustic lodge situated on El Karama Ranch right on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Laikipia. The ranch are 14,000 acres of pristine wilderness situated 40km North West of Mount Kenya.
El Karama is home to over 75 species of mammal, 350 species of birds and a stud herd of Sahiwal cattle. The permanent river provides an oasis for the many elephant, hippo, and crocodile that abound in this area. Whilst cattle rearing is the main activity on this ranch, wildlife conservation and preservation of the natural bush-land country is the greatest concern. El Karama Ranch has been the Grants' family home for nearly 40 years.
The Ranch bandas provide charming accommodation in a stunning piece of wilderness. Various accommodation options including two newly built cottages with en-suite bathrooms which accommodate up to five people each and four double recently renovated bandas with detached bathrooms are available. Each accommodation option has attendants who help with cooking, cleaning, washing and guiding. Facilities include an attractive and spacious communal dinning area which overlooks the Acacia clad Ewaso Nyiro River and a fully equipped kitchen.
Game walking, game driving and night drives are all possible here. Guests may explore the area on foot, by car or even by camel or horseback. One may also go river swimming or fishing.

Il
N'gwesi
Situated at the edge of a hill,
Il N'gwesi has spectacular views
of the wilderness and the surrounding
hills, magical sunrises and features
a continuous song of the wild
with the birds being the curtain
raisers at the break of dawn.
The local Maasai were initially
involved in the construction and
now own, run and host the lodge.
It is a perfect get away for the
adventurous guest who would like
to bond with nature in a remote,
wild and secluded setting away
from the hustle and bustle of
city life. Built entirely from
local material and with traditional
'makuti' thatched roofs, Il N'gwesi
has seven open walled cottages
with adjoining open air showers,
a large sitting area and a swimming
pool with an ideal lunch venue.
The sitting area and some of the
rooms have views of the water
hole where elephants, buffalos,
impalas, zebras and waterbucks
come for a drink or a dip. Two
of the rooms have an extended
terrace and guests can have their
beds pulled out and sleep directly
under the stars. Upon request
your hosts can make dinner arrangements
in a nearby Maasai village or
organize for children to spend
a day with Maasai children herding
cows.

Laragai
House
Built on the edge of the Mokogodo
Escarpment which drops 900 m to
the Northern Frontier District
below, Laragai House is the private
home of the Cecil family which
is available for rent when they
are not in residence. It has views
of Lolokwe and Wamba Mountain
to the north, and Mt. Kenya looms
out of the clouds to the south.
The house is lavishly built and
decorated in a mixture of styles
and textures reflecting the taste
of its owners which especially
to younger guests might apear
a bit "heavy". Laragai
House features a huge sitting
room with a fireplace at each
end, a spacious dining room with
an open deck, as well as a heated
swimming pool with views to the
west over Borana ranch surrounded
by stone alcoves which are ideal
for siestas after long leisurely
lunches served at the pool house.
A game and TV room makes Laragai
House a good option for families.
Guests are accomodated in six
spacious rooms decorated in a
luxurious up-country style with
ensuite bathrooms of which two
have an open fireplace.

Loisaba
Loisaba is located within a private
wildlife conservancy and working
cattle ranch north of Mt. Kenya
in Laikipia. Constructed from
stone, local timber and thatch
and set overlooking a waterhole
visited by a stream of wildlife,
Loisaba offers an active wilderness
experience in a private and tranquil
setting. The lodge has a large
swimming pool, spa, tennis court
and croquet lawn and guests can
go horse riding, biking and quad
biking.
Its seven rooms each have an ensuite
bathroom and windows that open
onto a private deck with a wide
view of the Laikipia plains. A
particularly imaginative attraction
is a stay at the Kiboko Star Beds
overlooking a waterhole or the
Koija Star Beds which overlook
the Ewaso Nyiro River. Each Star
Bed is designed in a raised wooden
platform that is partially covered
with a thatched roof.

Lolldaiga Farm House
Lolldaiga Farm is situated in the Lolldaiga Hills, 30 km to the northwest of Mount Kenya. Within the 49,000 acre ranch, vegetation ranges from dry savannah to open woodlands and high altitude forests. The working cattle ranch demonstrates a successfull model for coexistence between people, livestock husbandry and wildlife. The farm house is a traditional cedar log building constructed in the 1940’s. It has a large sitting and dining room warmed by a red-brick fireplace, and two double en-suite rooms. The house, nestled into a quiet valley, is sheltered from the prevailing north-easterly winds by cedar and olive trees. The garden, teaming with birds attracted by jasmine and citrus blossoms has sweeping views of Mount Kenya. The farm also has a well maintained tennis court.
Game drives enable guests to spot the wildlife, including wild dog, leopard, cheetah and lion. The Lolldaiga Hills, with the highest peak in Laikipia, and its ridges and valleys provide challenging and scenic walks. While on guided walks, discover 300 identified species of birds. Guests can also visit various archaeological sites including two stone-age rock shelters, rock art and ancient pottery. Furthermore, guests can participate in farm activities. You can also enjoy camel & horse rides, mountain biking and ox-cart trips – used in the early days to transport wool, and today for delivering firewood and milk. |

Makena's Hills

Mukutan
Retreat
Facing the Great Rift Valley on
Ol Ari Nyiro Ranch in Laikipia
is the magical Mukutan Retreat,
home to Kuki Gallmann, author
of "I Dream Of Africa"
and the movie by the same name.
The lodge is built in an elegant
and traditional style out of native
materials – stones, old
twisted trunks of olive and planks
of cedar, with steep roofs of
papyrus. Mukutan is composed of
a spacious common area and three
cottages, which accommodate a

Mutamaiyu-Mugie (Mugie Camp)
Mutamaiyu House is on Mugie Ranch,
a huge working ranch that rolls
out across the Laikipia plains
on the edge of the Great Rift
Valley. These rugged plains and
lush woodlands are home to a wide
array of game including the 'Big
Five'. Owned by Nicky and Gaby
Hahn, Mutamaiyu is a magnificent
house built on on a grove of ancient,
twisting olive trees. The main
house has a dining room, sitting
room and veranda and a collection
of books, art and music for guests
to enjoy. Mutamaiyu also features
a heated swimming pool where a
buffet lunch is often served and
which has such an incredible view

Nanyuki River Camel Camp
Only 4 kilometres away from Nanyuki
town, the Nanyuki River Camel
Camp is situated at the banks
of the Nanyuki river at the eastern
foot of Mount Kenya. Just beneath

traditional Somali huts woven
from palm leaves attached to wooden

Ol Gaboli Community Lodge
Ol Gaboli which in the Masai language means ‘Fig Tree’ is located under the enormous spreading branches of the largest and oldest fig tree in the area on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River.
The local Masai community has set aside prime grazing land totalling 5000 acres as a conservation area that includes the Ol Gaboli lodge. The rooms are built with local stone and a traditional thatch roof made from reeds. All rooms look out onto the Ewaso Nyiro River and have an en-suite bathroom, verandah and capacities from 2 to 8 people depending on sleeping arrangements. Hot water and light is provided by solar power.
There is an expansive combined lounge and dining room looking out onto the grassy riverbank and the towering Fig tree.
Possible activities include bush walks, fly camping, rafting, canoeing, mountain biking, rockclimbing, abseiling, camel safaris and guests have the oppportunity to interact with community and get insights into community projects and traditional hunting methods.

Ol Lentile is located in Laikipia, on a 14,500 acre private conservancy, 75km north of Mt Kenya. It consists of four luxury private houses, each house fully staffed and serviced by a butler. Sabuk Lodge is set high

Sandai Homestay and Cottages
Sandai Homestay and Cottages is located close to Aberdares National Park neighbouring Solio Game Reserve and faces Mt. Kenya with its snow capped peaks. Despite its altitude of 2000m above sea level, the climate is mild and dry. The homestead consists of a farmhouse and two guest houses with four rooms, each with shower/bath tap and toilet. There are two more guestrooms in the main house sharing a shower and toilet.
The kitchen and dining room is in the farmhouse while the living room is equipped with an open fireplace. Guests usually share the delicious food with the small family of Petra Allmendinger, the farm owner.
Enjoy game drives in the neighbouring Solio game reserve, bush walks and exciting horse riding excursions that can also include a visit to the local Mau Mau caves where the Kenyan freedom fighters used to hide. Petra can also take you on a sight seeing flights in a light aeroplane.

Sangare Lakeside Tented Camp
Sangare Lakeside Tented Camp is located on Sangare Ranch, a 6,500 acre property at an altitude of 2000 meter in the foothills of the Aberdares National Park neighbouring Solio Game Reserve and with spectacular views across the valley to Mount Kenya.
Guests are accommodated in six en-suite permanent tented rooms overlooking a small lake encircled by tall yellow fever acacia trees where elephant and buffalo are regular visitors. A separate cottage contains a sitting room and kitchen with a verandah overlooking the lake shore.
Leopard, hyena, Colobus and Sykes monkeys, and all the common plains game species, such as zebra, gazelle, giraffe, eland and buffalo are present in good number. While at Sangare, guests can choose to take part in game drives on Sangare Ranch, bird watching, nature walks, horse riding, trout fishing or go on excursions to the Aberdares National Park and Solio Game Reserve.

Eight kilometeres of the Ewaso
Narok River run through the ranch
with rocky gorges, two beautiful
waterfalls and hippo pools. The

Narok River basin. There is also

Sweetwaters
Tented Camp
Sweetwaters Tented Camp is located
in typical savannah grasslands
with 'Whistling Thorn' and other
acacia trees overlooking a waterhole
and salt-lick and bordering the
Ewaso Nyiro River. Built in the
1970’s, the Camp’s
main building contains the dining
room, bar and reception and was
originally the residence of the
ranch manager of this private
reserve. Guests are accomodated
in 40 tents, some of which are
on ground level while others are
raised on wooden platforms. They
are covered with thatch and have
views of the waterhole from their
own verandahs.

Tassia
Tassia Lodge is situated
on a rocky cliff, neighboring
Il N'gwesi Group Ranch and Borana.
All rooms are carved out of the
rock, inspired in design by the
traditional Masai 'manyatta',
and have open walls and a very
natural feel. The tower and lounge
offer magnificent views of the
plains and hills stretching for
miles from different levels and
are thus ideal for game viewing.
Accommodation is offered in five
double bedrooms, one twin room,
all ensuite, and a bunkhouse for
children with an ensuite shower
room. Tassia is self-catering

Maasai. Cultural visits can be

Tharua Ranch
Tharua Ranch is in Laikipia bordering Ol Pejeta and Solio conservancies where horse riding is in plenty. Accommodation is offered in 4 en suite bedrooms which sleep 6 people with house staff. Lewa House
Lewa House is a beautiful residence situated within the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy on the top of a hill with fantastic sunrise and sunset views. It features a main building with a lounge and dining area leading to a verandah with rustic and comfortable seats where one can relax, read or just savour the scenic beauty of the plains stretching for miles across Northern Kenya and towards Mt. Kenya. The verandah is also adjacent to a lovely pool which further enhances the relaxed ambience at Lewa House. Guests are accomodated in three cottages which each have a private veranda from where they can enjoy the starlit skies in the evening. All the cottages have ensuite bathrooms, apart from the family cottage, which has a shared bathroom.

Lewa Safari Camp
Lewa Safari Camp is a small upmarket
camp within the Lewa Wildlife
Conservancy, in northern Kenya.
Sited on the old Rhino Sanctuary
with a view of Mt. Kenya, the
camp is surrounded by lush green
lawns and has wide open views
of the plains which are home to
an array of wild animals including
endangered ones such as the acquatic
sitatunga and Grevy's zebras.
Guests are accomodated in twelve
small but comfortable tents with

Lewa
Wilderness
Wilderness Trails is the home
of Will and Emma Craig. The main
house features a cosy sitting
room where guests can relax and
chat by the fire while enjoying
drinks and an open-air dining
room. A comfortable lounge looks
into a beautiful garden with a
lush green grass carpet leading
to the pool with a view. Sipping
a drink on the open deck or in
the swinging bed by the horizon
pool is pure bliss and will make
you not want to leave. Six of
the nine cottages have terraces
with views of a hill and a small
valley where giraffes, elephants
and impalas among others graze
and wander about during the day.
They are spacious and each have
fireplaces, bars and ensuite showers.
At Wilderness Trails guests can
have the unforgettable experience
of coming very close to giraffes
and zebras on horse back and trailing
elusive animals on foot such as
wide and black rhino with the
knowledgable and experienced Guide
Karamashu. On a night game drives
it is possible to catch sight
of a big cat stalking its prey
or just after a kill.
