Kembu Cottages & Farm Stay
Kembu Cottages are located on a large 900 acre farm where you can enjoy the freedom to go on long walks, relax or pursue any one of the many activities offered by Kembu. This wonderful high altitude climate means there is no malaria. Crisp clean air and ample space makes for an ideal family retreat where children can help feed horses, calves and chicken and burn up all their pent up energy. Sorrounding are beautiful gardens and secure grounds. Guests can also enjoy organized barbeques and fresh farm produce and play badminton and volleybal.
The family owner-managers, the Nightingales, have a family run business where traditional values and teamwork prevail. They have a strong history behind them and after generations of diligence know how to provide a lasting and homely environment for travellers.
There are numerous day trips in easy reach of the farm including to Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Bogoria National Reserve, Menengai Crater, the Mau Forest and Kiplombe Valley. You can also witness the Mitumba Market Madness, where second hand clothes are sold at rock bottom prices. Effectively, any clothes donated to charity destined for Kenya are bundled up into huge compressed bales then distributed around the country. The bundles are then sold for the cost of distribution, opened up by the mitumba stall holders and divided and sold on. In Njoro, new bundles are opened Wednesdays and Saturdays and everyone with a spare penny goes to town to see what bargains they can find.
