Only few visitors come to Meru which enhances its stunning scenic beauty, watered by many small rivers which are shaded by dense riverine forest and stands of raphia and doum palms. In this remote area Joy and George Adamson reared the lioness Elsa, the friendship between them maintained even after Elsa was set free and became famous through the movie “Born Free”. When you land on its tiny airstrip in the midst of the African bush you may disturb a cheetah or big-eared bull elephant that charges away in startled surprise - a promise of what lays ahead.

This is home to the rare northern desert species of beisa oryx, zebra, giraffe, various species of antelopes as well as large herds of elephant and myriads of the most colourful birds. You also may come across mating lions, a leopard lurking under a tree and cheetahs enjoying their little nap before the start of their next hunt for food which is indeed plentiful.
