Rutundu Log Cabins
Rutundu Log Cabins are situated on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya, at 10,200 feet, just above the forest line. In total privacy, these log cabins are positioned overlooking Lake Rutundu, surrounded by alpine country, a home for unique bird life and vegetation. The cabins are built in the original style of log cabins with moss filling the gaps between the logs and bitumen on the roof. Sheepskin rugs and open fires ensure a cosy warm atmosphere at night. Two cabins sleep four people comfortably but there is room for more. Hot water is heated in kuni (wood) boosters using old heather roots for fuel. This is an unusual opportunity of fly fishing for rainbow trout at a height of 10,000 ft. The main attraction of Lake Rutundu is the fact that is privately stocked with rainbow trout. The staff at the Cabins are also trained gillies and using barbless hooks and a rowing boat, many hours can be spent trying your luck in perfect tranquil conditions. No previous fishing experience is necessary and in fact many visitors come purely to enjoy the unique mountain scenery. Extraordinary walks and additional fishing on the stunning Lake Alice at 12,200 feet make this trip a worthwhile and memorable experience. Rides are also possible to Rutundu. The ride starts from Kisima Farm, (neighboring Lewa on its southern side) and the ride to Rutundu will take about 4-5 hours. The horses are polo-horses and are trained on high altitude. Other acitiviies include: Bird watching, Boating, Fishing-river, Fishing-lake, Fishing-trout, Walking."

Serena Mountain Lodge
Located at 2200 meters on the slopes of the snow-capped Mount Kenya, Serena Mountain Lodge is a comfortable tree lodge in Kenya with private ensuite bathroom facilities. At dusk the dense tropical rain forest comes alive with myriad sounds of creatures of various descriptions.
The elephant, rhino, several species of antelopes including the bongo and occasionally leopards and lions are visitors at the illuminated water hole which is connected to the lodge by a short tunnel to a specially constructed hide affording a close up view of the game. For ornithologists, over 200 species of birds have been identified while the indigenous tropical rain forest vegetation is of special interest to the botanists.
The 42 brightly renovated rooms feature thick-pile locally woven rugs and wall-hangings, whilst the décor has been designed to provide glowing warmth and fireside comfort against the often chilly evenings of this tropical mountain environment. |
