Accommodation: Arusha & Mt. Meru

Arusha Coffee Lodge:

Located on a working coffee plantation close to the national airport, Arusha Coffee Lodge offers sweeping views over the coffee estate and Mount Meru. Inspired in design by the original plantation houses, the lodge has been completely renovated to achieve high standards of comfort with a feel of the bygone days of early exploration. Accommodation is provided in 18 lavishly furnished chalets with a split level living area, large balconies and cosy fireplaces. Each chalet has its own private coffee grinder and in-room percolator, to get the true aroma of the coffee estate. Dinner is served at Redds African Grill House and the menu features an array of both traditional Tanzanian cuisine and other African specialities.


Hatari Lodge:

Hatari Lodge is located above 1500 m on the Northern edge of Arusha National Park, with stunning views of lakes and craters, magical rainforests and the dormant volcano Mt. Meru rising in the background. It is named after the Hollywood film 'Hatari' which was filmed in the area in 1960 starring John Wayne and Hardy Krueger. Today Hardy Krueger's former home and that of his manager form part of Hatari Lodge which is now managed by Marlies and Joerg Gabriel. Accomodation is offered in eight comfortably furnished rooms which each have an open fireplace and a spacious bathroom and are decorated and furnished in a modern retro style capturing the spirit of the 60s and 70s - the era of 'Hatari'. The lodge features a large central living and dining room with an open fire place, a bar, a small library and a breakfast terrace with an impressive view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Directly below the terrace is the Momella clearing with a viewing platform from which guests watch animals as well as enjoy sundowners with Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background.


Kigongoni Lodge:

Located on a hilltop with lush gardens, Kigongoni Lodge offers breathtaking views of Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru. Tucked between the trees of this historic coffee farm are eighteen cottages, built in traditional African styles and materials. The rooms, lounge and restaurant are tastefully furnished and all have fireplaces while the swimming pool is a great place for a relaxing afternoon and a spectacular sundowner. The Sibusiso Foundation, a center for improving the quality of life for mentally disabled children and their families, has its home adjacent to the lodge and directly benefits from its revenues. Staying at Kigongoni will threfore give guests an authentic, homely experience and a sense of life in Tanzania, while providing an opportunity to participate in activities that contribute to the development of local communities.


Mount Meru Game Lodge:

Mount Meru Game Lodge is nestled between the peaks of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro bounded on one side by the waters of the Usa River and on the other by the Animal Sanctuary where the resident animals and birds live. The sanctuary was founded to offer refuge to orphaned and injured animals and to prepare them for their return to the wild. These include eland, ostriches, waterbuck, zebra, buffalo and birds. The lodge comprises 15 double en-suite bedrooms and 2 suites with individualistic design and character. All rooms have a veranda with comfortable chairs where guests may sit and enjoy views of the sorrounding as well as watch the animal and birdlife. The suites are located in their own private garden and are ideal also for families and small groups to whom privacy is very important. The Terrace, shaded by enormous old mango trees, enjoys magnificent views over mature, carefully tended gardens to the Sanctuary. It makes for a good spot for sundowners or just sitting, relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. The lounge, with its enormous picture windows and comfortable furniture, provides for complete relaxation in intimate surroundings. The bar is well stocked with a wide selection of spirits, beers and a collection of fine wines.


Onsea House:

Onsea House feels more like a private home than a lodge. Its five private guestrooms were originally intended for family and friends of the owners, Dirk and Inneke Janssens-Onsea. All rooms have their own character and are individually furnished with a comfortable king size bed with Zanzibar carvings and mosquito net, traditional safari chairs and table. The terrace offers great views of the surrounding countryside and towards Mt Meru while the swimming pool and the whirlpool with its adjoining massage deck are great for a relaxing afternoon. The ambiance is completed through the excellent food, prepared by the resident Michelin Star-crowned chef.


Rivertrees Country Inn:

River Trees Country Inn is nestled in natural gardens, under old trees along a small river, with breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru, and an abundance of birdlife. Accommodation is offered to 24 guests in self contained guestrooms located in the main farmhouse or within the spacious gardens with each room individually styled and uniquely furnished with its own character. The old farm house, restaurant & pub are cozily furnished and compliment the surroundings. The swimming pool is located near the river and surrounded by sights and sounds of nature. Activities include horse riding, golf, tennis, squash as well as a visit to the museum.


Siafu Bed and Breakfast:

Siafu Bed and Breakfast is located 100 meters from the main Kilimanjaro - Arusha Road. Siafu means Safari ants. They march in large groups and clean up on their way, they are hard working, believe in team work and have great intuition. Siafu Bed and Breakfast is comfortable & affordable accommodation in a private setting in Usa River Tanzania. It has 22 Tanzanian widows, mothers and grandmothers, that joined together to improve their standing in Usa river community and attempt to rise above the poor and miserable standard of living by starting their own business in a well organized and profitable way. They have a big dream of establishing a vibrant and colorful community center in their village with assorted departments under one roof.
