Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge
Situated on the Indian Ocean near Bagamoyo along the Zanzibar Channel, the hotel lies on a secluded beach, offshore from Ras Kaole, 6km south of Bagamoyo and 60km north of Dar es Salaam. 'Lazy Lagoon' is translated from the Swahili 'Ras Luale', and as the name suggests, the pace of life slows on the coast. Access is by road from Dar or by air to our private airstrip.
There are 12 large thatched beach bandas primarily made of timber and palms with raised wooden floors, extensive verandah, offering shade and seclusion, and spacious large windows. The restaurant is built, on the tip of the peninsular and has a spectacular upper storey 'sundowner' bar with panoramic views from the mainland and night-lights of Bagamoyo town, out to sea and Zanzibar. The local fishermen have to skirt the island morning and evening to get to their fishing grounds, creating an almost stage set coastal theme. The Lodge has a swimming pool as well as sea bathing at all tides.
Apart from sun worshipping, visitors can experience the historical atmosphere of the old slave town and capital of German East Africa, Bagamoyo, translated as ""lay down your heart"". Guests can also enjoy windsurfing, boating and sailing on the Indian Ocean waters, snorkeling around the coral reef at Lazy Lagoon, nature walk on the island which is a small private nature reserve. There are many small mammals including bushbabies, wild pigs, genets, baboons, duiker and suni antelope to be found amongst the indigenous forest and mangrove. Bird life and flowers are also abundant.
