Lake Victoria is the second largest fresh water lake in the world and source of the River Nile. A good opportunity to enjoy a welcome contrast to game viewing. The lake is rich in fish and birdlife, its islands lush and verdant. The deep blue waters support an abundant ecosystem. Its shores are lined with groves of banana trees and fishing villages where you’ll always be greeted with a friendly smile and a wave. The chance to catch the giant Nile perch draws many guests.
Mwanza is one of Tanzania's largest towns and is the economic centre of the lake region. The surrounding area is characterised by hills and strewn with enormous boulders. Mwanza is a down to earth liveable place with a low key atmosphere and the best base for visiting Rubondo Island National Park. In the dry season it is a possible starting or finishing point for a safari through the western Serengeti.
