Greystoke
Greystoke Mahale is located on
Kangwena Beach on the edge of
Lake Tanganyika in the Mahale
Mountains National Park. Behind
the camp is a forest which after
a few hundred yards of relatively
flat land quickly becomes steep
hills that go up over 300 m and
is home to the world's largest
known population of chimpanzees
as well as other primates, bushbuck,
bush pig, leopard and amazing
birds. The camp features a bar
and dining area which is inspired
in design by traditional Tongwe
architecture. Guests sleep in
six open fronted bandas directly
on the soft sand beach. They have
dressing-rooms, heavy privacy
curtains for use at night if desired,
adjoining bathrooms and upstairs
chill-out decks. After a day's
'chimping' you can kayak along
the lakeshore, snorkel, fish,
enjoy a refreshing swim in the
lake or watch the sun sink slowly
into the horizon before having
a private bare foot dinner on
the beach.

Nkungwe
Tented Camp
Far removed from anywhere else
in Tanzania, Nkungwe Tented Camp
is set on the shores of Lake Tanganyika
nestled into the forest with the
Mahale Mountains as a backdrop.
The camp features the main dining
area which is designed like a
boat shipwrecked at one end of
the beach, and a lounge area with
a small library. Swimming is possible
at all times of the day in the
lake with good snorkelling at
one end of the beach. Accommodation
is offered in ten luxury tented
bandas with ensuite showers and
toilets which are raised on wooden
platforms and spaced out along
the beach. Each banda has a large
balcony overlooking the beach
and lake from where guests can
enjoy the beautiful sunsets of
Mahale.
