   Accommodation in Selous

 Beho Beho
Beho Beho is located in the Selous hills in the Northern sector of the Selous game reserve with a spectacular backdrop of hills and plains. Furnished in the style of a private house with comfortable sitting and dining areas, Beho Beho has few walls which create a wonderfully open ambiance. Accommodation is offered in eight spacious palm thatched bandas built of stone with an open front which extends on to a large veranda, from which guests can watch hippos cool themselves in the mid-morning sun at the watering hole. Each banda has a separate dressing room leading into an ensuite bathroom with an 'open air' shower. Beho Beho's excellent and knowledgable guides plan your safari programme according to your requirements and accompany you on an early-morning trek for elephant and buffalo or down to Lake Tagalala and Manzi for a boat ride in search of hippo and crocs, followed by a wallow in the warm mineral waters of the near hot springs. If you don't feel like being active, you can relax and be pampered by the attentive staff and wonderful food.

 Lake Manze Camp
Lake Manze Camp is an authentic tented safari camp that rests under a beautiful shady canopy of Doum Palms and Terminalia trees, on the shores of Lake Manze. The twelve tents are spacious and well spread out with good views out over the lake infront. The tents are well spread around the extensive camp area, along the shores of the lake. Each tent has en suite bathroom with flush toilet and hot shower and is furnished with twin or double beds with a comfortable veranda to watch the animals passing by. There is not even electricity in camp, just kerosene lamps. Manze a variety of activities including walking safari, boating and game drives. The camp is situated on an elephant walkway, making game around and the Lake Manze area one of the richest. The animals can come very close, even an unexpected elephant roaming around besides your tent.

 Mivumo River Lodge
Mvumo River Lodge is situated on the panhandle of the Rufiji River in view of the mighty Stiegler’s Gorge. It comprises 12 luxury rooms are set along the river as is the large dining area. All the twelve rooms are air-conditioned, opulent in décor, with spacious bathroom facilities, complimented by a sundeck, plunge pool and outside shower. Next to the main dining area is the lounge and library boasting spectacular views of the river. The lodge offers a variety of activities including boat adventures, exclusive guided walks, adventure picnic breakfasts & lunches, private game drives & sundowner river adventures. Full aromatherapy spa facilities are also offered.

 Rufiji River Camp
Rufiji River Camp was one of the first tented camps to be set up in the Selous Game Reserve and consequently claims a superb location overlooking a wide curve of the mighty Rufiji River and the plains beyond. It is popular with a very large and rowdy population of vervet monkeys who have a merry tendency to engage in noisy family disputes.

The camp accommodates guests in 20 comfortable tents. Each tent has twin bed with mosquito nets, completely equipped private bathroom and comfortable verandah facing a magnificent view. The central restaurant provides excellent exotic and international cuisine. The dining area and bar are well positioned for memorable sunsets every night. A definite bonus is that they have now built a good sized pool and offer fly camping.

Besides walking safaris and 4wd car excursions, a major attraction is the boat trip along the Rufiji River and the adjoining lakes where hippo, crocodile and 400 species of birds can be observed. Sport fishing facilities are available.

 Sable Mountain Lodge
Situated 1km outside the park's western park boundary and 10km from Matembwe Gate, Sable Mountain Lodge sits high up, north of the Beho Beho hills. Being situated in the hills offers a totally different and breathtaking alternative to the other lodges inside the reserve with endless views over the forest canopy to the Uluguru Mountains and across the surrounding dense brachystegia forest. It is a good base to explore the northern reaches of the Selous Game reserve with guides from the camp who have a reasonable knowledge of the animals and birds. The lodge has eight stone cottages and four luxury-tented bandas individually spaced out over the hillside. Each cottage provides spacious and stylish accomodation with full en-suite facilities, 24 hour solar lighting, a spring water supply and wonderful views from a private verandah. Sable Mountain Lodge's swimming pool, has commanding views across the game rich hills behind the lodge. The restaurant serves international cuisine, and the well stocked ""Cup and Bucket"" bar, offers a superb setting to unwind before dinner. Walking Safaris or game drives inside the reserve enables visitors to venture out on foot, looking closer at the bird life and vegetation as well as experiencing the thrill of following big game and predators on foot. Around the lodge it is possible to follow game trails across the hills in search of buffalo and the rare Roosevelt's sable antelope, or traverse dry riverbeds where elephant dig for water. Boat Safaris and Night Drives are also possible at Sable Mountain Lodge.
 Sand Rivers Selous
Sand Rivers Selous is set in the heart of the Selous away from other camps on a wide curve of the Rufifji River. The camp has been crafted from local wood, stone and thatch and offers extensive game viewing due to its incredibly diverse ecosystem. It features a large mess and swimming pool and has a homely ambiance Eight spacious open- fronted cottages on stilts blend comfort with the natural beauty of the surroundings. Four poster beds are cooled by overhead fans while the bathrooms are equipped with solar heated showers and soft bathrobes. Private adventures at Sand Rivers Selous vary from boating on the Rufiji, weaving past hippos and crocodiles, driving on the trail of lion or wild dog to sleeping out under the stars and fishing in solitude, barefoot on a river rock.

 Selous Impala Camp
Selous Impala Camp is situated right on the banks of the mighty Rufiji River. The main building is wide and spacious with a thatched roof and polished wooden floors. It is furnished with comfortable planter chairs and antiques and there is a welcoming bar. Next to it, an inviting swimming pool lies on the riverbank not far from the lodge.

Accommodation is offered in only six tents set along the river side and they are spaced far apart for privacy. The tents are raised on a wooden platform, to give height for cool breezes and safety from snakes and insects and have airy interior with shining teak floors, handwovern kikoys in beautiful warm colours, writing desks and brass lamps. They have verandas which look down on the river from which you could possibly catch sight of an elephant splashing away from just below or hippos snorting and honking close by. Guests can enjoy boat rides on the Rufiji as they see elephants and buffalo on the banks, fish eagles and many varieties of water birds, as well as many crocodiles and hippos.

 Selous Mbega Camp
The Selous Mbega Camp is set up along the great Rufiji River just 500 metres away from the border of the Selous Game Reserve, in its own private riverine forest reserve. A green ceiling of tree branches and leaves, providing almost always shade throughout the day, covers the camp area. Accommodation is offered in 13 basic mosquito and insect proof tents built on wooden platforms with ensuite bathrooms and a veranda. The restaurant and bar are situated under a palm leaf thatched roof around a Mahogany tree, facing the Rufiji River. There is also an additional sundown area and bar where a resident troop of black and white colobus monkeys frolic around as well as a viewing tower which overlooks a seasonal waterhole.
 Selous Riverside Safari Camp
Hidden amongst dense forest, on the banksof Rufiji River, Selous Riverside Safari Camp provides breathtaking views as dawn arises. Its spacious tents have been carefully placed to provide privacy and blend into the nature’s surrounding, overlooking the Rufiji River and its hippos and crocodiles. Selous Safari camp has 10 spacious tents hoisted on wooden platforms. The tents are well ventilated and are available in doubles, twins and singles. Dinner can be served under the stars on the deck or in the covered dining area. The showers are enclosed within the open ground with running hot water, spacious verandah furnished with easy chairs and coffee table. Guests can view several wild animals including wildelephants, hippos, crocodiles, hunting dogs and birds. Amenities in the tents include en suite bathroom with shower, wash basin and flush toilet. Be it a boat safari or a full day game drive, with a pool deck that stretches all the way on to the River it provides the good place to relax and cool off after a long day of adventure.
 Selous Safari Camp
The Selous Safari Camp has the prime position at the centre of the unique riverine and lake complex, with the highest concentration of African wildlife and myriad birdlife. Situated on the banks of Lake Nzerakera, it is designed to blend in with the spectacular natural scenery. Each of the nine safari tents sits atop its own raised timber platform, affording guests a close encounter with the African bush. There are no fences and animals wander freely through the camp. The camp has its own swimming pool, enabling guests to cool off in the heat of the day.
 Selous Wildlife Lodge
This tented camp is set on the Eastern bank of the Simbazi River, a tributary of the Rufiji, in the South West of the Northern sector of the Selous. It comprises twelve well appointed tents positioned under individually grass thatched structures, luxuriously furnished with adjoining beautifully appointed colonial bathrooms. A separate dining area & guest lounge overlook the natural water hole, complemented by an outside viewing deck & infinity swimming pool. The picturesque Tented camp boasts an untouched sorrounding that creates an astounding vista. Enormous trees & lush dense vegetation invite natural elements and guests may enjoy unique sightings from the comfort of their tent deck.
 The Retreat
The Retreat is situated, in rhino country, on the shores of the Ruaha River in the remote and uncrowded north-west corner of the Selous Game Reserve. The idea to establish a lodge in a combination of a fort with off white canvas tents, as was done nearly 100 years ago by the colonial troops, was born as remains of a military camp from the First World War were found at the camp's location. Twelve exotic tents on teak platforms and with panoramic views, nestle into the banks and the hillside leading down to the wide river. Hand made metal art and textiles, semi precious stones, natural wood and the knowledge of nomads have been utilised for the details of the mainhouse, tents and all interior design. In addition to game drives and boat safaris, enjoy walking and tracking Rhinos, or a fishing trip. After a day in the bush, enjoy a massage or a special treatment at the only spa in the Selous.
