   ZanzibarAccommodation in Zanzibar

The lure of the "spice islands" is legendary. From exotic Stone Town with its fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets, to palm-fringed beaches and pristine coral reefs, Zanzibar is a complete change of pace from mainland Tanzania. The spectacular turquoise sea, abounding in marine life and striking coral formations and the fine white sand beaches are a major drawcard of Zanzibar. Although many places have become very developed, there are still quiet and relatively unspoiled spots left.

West:
The Marine Parks of Chapwani, Changuu and Bawe Islands can easily combined with an excursion to Stone Town. Changuu Island is home to the rare Giant Tortoise and Dolphins are frequently spotted around Bawe. In Changuu and Bawe Islands you can have lunch or dine in pretty surroundings overlooking the sea. The nearby coral Island of Chapwani is surrounded by coves, sand bays and crystal blue waters. This secluded spot offers good snorkeling, and an array of birds and animals on shore.

South:
On the south coast of Zanzibar lies the large and relatively shallow Menai Bay Conservation Area, a breeding place for the endangered sea turtle and also a great location for dolphin spotting. The scenery around here is breathtaking, with small Islands, sand banks and pristine secluded beaches to be found within a short sail of eachother. This area offers some of the best fishing opportunities in Zanzibar. Snorkelling off the sandbanks is also very rewarding.

North:
You can explore the North West of Zanzibar taking the pass between Tumbatu Island and the mainland; and arrive at the sleepy fishing village of Mkokotoni. Fresh fish can be purchased from enthusiastic fishermen either at sea from their Dows or on shore at the small marketplace. Marvel at the sight of the colorful but overloaded local narrow long boats crossing the pass. On the Northern tip of Zanzibar Ras Nungwi with its collection of thatched beach resorts, is a great –place to spend some time. Its white coconut fringed beaches, informal beach front bars, seafood restaurants, clear blue waters and laid back spirit make this location Ideal for arriving sailors. Some good snorkeling can also be found around this stretch of coast. A must for any visitor who heads to the North of Zanzibar is a stop off at Mnemba Island; the nearby atoll of coral reef and the area’s high visibility offers some of the best snorkeling on the island.
