Experience one of the lively and colourful street markets, the fantastic music scene and one of the many excellent restaurants. Alternatively, discover the Karen Blixen museum, giraffe centre where you can feed giraffes or venture into Nairobi National Park, just outside town, with its cliffs and forests and large herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Giraffe and more.

Accommodation: House of Waine or Macushla House

Day: 2 - 4 Loita Hills

Morning Drive Nairobi – Loita Hills (ca. 5 hours)

A beautiful trek in the unspoilt Maasai heartland, before descending the Rift Valley to semi-desert landscape and flamingo-lined soda lakes.
From the Maasai village of Morijo you head east for three hours to the campsite where dinner is cooked over an open fire. On the second day, you cut through difficult forest terrain and camp on the edge of the escarpment. On the third day, you walk down from the escarpment into the Great Rift Valley. The terrain changes to open grassland and you camp on a river where you can enjoy swimming and great views.

Accommodation: Mobile Bush Camps

Day: 5 - 7 Lake Naivasha & Mt Longonot

Drive back to Nairobi along the soda flats of Lake Magadi (ca. 2 hours). Onward transfer to Lake Naivasha (ca. 1.5 hours)

Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake, fringed by thick papyrus and surrounded by forests which abound with bird life, making Naivasha a world class birding destination. Enjoy a stunning sunset during a boat trip on the lake, an afternoon hike or biking trip in Hell's Gate National Park or a leisurely horse riding safari.

Climbing the extinct volcano Mt Longonot makes a great day hike with amazing views of its spectacular crater as well as the dramatic Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha.

Accommodation: Longonot Ranch House or Lake Naivasha Country Club

Day: 8 - 10 Aberdares

Drive to Aberdares (ca. 2 hours)

The Aberdares offer striking mountain scenery - a mix of the alps combined with stretches of dense jungle and amazing waterfalls, with the largest a stunning 300m plunge. You can also see lots of animals as the park has a high concentration of buffaloes, elephants, hyenas and the rare bongo antelope. You can relax while fishing at the lovely streams, explore the waterfalls on foot and climb Lesatima Peak, with 4000 metres the highest point of the Aberdares and a good acclimatisation hike to prepare you for Mt Kenya.

Accommodation: Fishing Lodge

Day: 11 - 14

Mt Kenya

Drive to base of Mt Kenya (2-4 hours, depending on route)

Mount Kenya is located on the equator and is Kenya's highest mountain. With magnificent cliffs and glaciers protecting the highest peaks of Nelion (5188m) and Batian (5199m) it makes for a spectacular technical climb. The third highest summit - Point Lenana, (4985m) - is also glaciated but accessible to walkers.

Discover the tarns and alpine meadows; exotic, equatorial, high-altitude vegetation; sunbirds, hyrax and soaring eagles which make the hike up to Point Lenana or around the peaks one of the most beautiful expeditions in the East African mountains. For serious mountaineers, the climb to Nelion and Batian can also be arranged.

Accommodation: Mountain huts and tents

Day: 15 Nairobi

Drive from Mt Kenya to Nairobi and transfer to International Airport for departure (3-4 hours)
