Experience one of the lively and colourful street markets, the fantastic music scene and one of the many excellent restaurants. Alternatively, discover the Karen Blixen museum, giraffe centre where you can feed giraffes or venture into Nairobi National Park, just outside town, with its cliffs and forests and large herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Giraffe and more.

Accommodation: Ridgeway Gables or Kiambethu Tea Farm

Day: 2 Lake Nakuru

Drive Nairobi – Lake Nakuru (ca. 2.5 hours)

Lake Nakuru is one of the alkaline Rift Valley lakes with its shores populated at times by more than one million flamingos which has been called "the greatest bird spectacle on earth". Game drives offer you the opportunity to get as close as ten meters to this spectacle and to see elephants, giraffe, rhino and the elusive tree climbing lions. Enjoy the variety of wildlife combined with its striking and varied landscapes - driving through the savannah, passing by the lake and the swamps and negotiating the rocky path up to the baboon cliffs with their stunning views across the entire park will create a sense of wonder and admiration in even the most travelled visitor.

Accommodation: Lake Nakuru Lion Hill Lodge or Naishi House

Day: 3 - 7 Mt Elgon

Drive from Lake Nakuru to Mt Elgon via the spectacular Tugen Hills (ca. 7 hours)

Set on the Kenyan-Ugandan border, Mount Elgon National Park encompasses the 4,321 metre mountain for which it is named, which has the largest base of any extinct volcano in the world. A lush mosaic of Afro-montane forest, grassland, moorland habitats and a huge caldera at the top surrounded by a series of rugged peaks makes this park a highly rewarding destination for hikers and other natural history enthusiasts.
While ascending Mt Elgon's enchanting slopes, you will pass through dense montane forest and mixed bamboo belts teeming with birdlife. You will then enter the fascinating heath and moorland zones containing several interesting endemic plant species while wildlife enthusiasts will be pleased to spot primates and hundreds of fascinating bird species. If you are particularly observant you can also see buffalo, duiker, hyena or even the elusive leopard.
In addition to the interesting and unique flora and fauna, you can expect to experience magnificent waterfalls, scenic peaks and gorges, mesas, calderas, hot springs which bubble up at 48'C and enormous caves where frequent night visitors such as elephants and buffaloes come to lick the natural salt found on the cave walls.

Accommodation: Tents

Day: 8 - 10 Lake Victoria

Drive to Lake Victoria (ca. 2 hours)

Bujagali Falls, which lies downstream of the Source of the Nile in Jinja two hours drive east of Kampala, is the East African counterpart to more southerly ‘adrenaline capitals’ such as Victoria Falls and Cape Town. Bujagali is the launching point for a white-water rafting route that ranks as one of most thrilling but also one of the safest in the world, passing through three heart-stopping Grade Five rapids in one day. Other activities at Bujagali include kayaking, mountain biking, quad-biking and a new 44 metre-high bungee jump from a cliff above the Nile.

Accommodation: The Nile Porch or Gately on the Nile

Day: 11 - 16

Rwenzori Mountains

Drive from Lake Victoria to Rwenzoris (6-8 hours)

The Rwenzori Mountains are located on the Uganda-Congo border just north of the Equator and are often referred to as the Mountains of the Moon due to their legendary beauty. The mountain range has six peaks, the highest of which is 5,109 metres, making it the third highest in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya. The mountains are covered in interesting flora and fauna, and there are many wild flowers and stunning birds as well as giant Lobelia and groundsel of up to 10 metres.
Technical knowledge - ropes, crampons and appropriate mountaineering equipment - is advised for reaching Margherita peak, which is often covered in snow

Accommodation: Mountain huts and tents

Day: 17 Kampala

Drive from Rwenzori Mountains to Kampala and transfer to International Airport for departure (5-6 hours)
