Arrival in Arusha
|
| Welcome to
Enchanting-Africa! Our tour manager
will receive you at the airport at
the foot of Kilimanjaro and take you
to your hotel for check in.
Arusha is nestled in the shadow of
Mount Meru with commanding views of
the mighty Kilimanjaro. It is a convenient
base from which most travellers visit
the country’s most renowned
game reserves and offers a number
of rewarding excursions close by such
as Arusha National Park, one of the
least frequently visited northern
Tanzania national parks, making it
a wonderful and rewarding off-the-beaten-track.

Usambara Mountains |
| Drive from Arusha
to Lushoto (3-4 hours)
The little known Usambara Mountains
are one of Tanzania's gems and a relict
patch of the great tropical rainforests
that once spanned Africa from the
Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. Dubbed
the "Galapagos" of the plant
world, the Usambara's have a huge
number of endemic tree and plant species
which makes them a hiking, birding
and primate-spotting paradise.
During your hikes you will cross fertile
slopes on which farmers cultivate
small plots as well as dense tropical
forests. Enjoy refreshing waterfalls,
fantastic views of Kilimanjaro on
the horizon and sunsets which turn
the area into a tremendous pallet
of unforgettable colours.

Mt Kilimanjaro |
| Drive Usambara
Mountains to Kilimanjaro (ca. 4 hours)
Mount Kilimanjaro is the crown of
Tanzania. With an altitude of 5895m,
it is the highest peak in Africa,
the highest freestanding mountain
in the world, and one of the largest
volcanoes. The base of the immense
mountain has a diameter of about 70
km. On a clear day his impressive
formation can be seen from more than
160 km away, and although it is only
three degrees below the Equator, his
peak is permanently covered with snow
and ice. Elephants, leopards, lions
and colobus monkeys are among the
residents of the park. The encircling
rain forests ensure the fertility
of the lush, lower lying countryside,
where the Chagga cultuvate their coffee,
maize and bananas.
The summit of Kilimanjaro is definitely
a challenge, and there are risks involved,
but it can be reached by any reasonably
fit person who enjoys hiking, and
reaching the summit will be an experience
of a lifetime!

you pass through "clouds"

home to troops of baboons and blue
monkeys. Buffalo and hippo lurch in
the adjacent Hippo Pool. The vegetation
merges into flat topped acacia woodland
where, in the heat of the day, you
can see the famous tree-climbing lions
of Lake Manyara stretched on the branches
of these trees. Two thirds of the
park is dominated by the slightly
alkaline lake which is home to more
than 400 species of birds including
flamingos and pelicans.
