Lewa Downs are a privately owned Wildlife Conservancy situated against the dramatic backdrop of the snow-covered massif of Mt Kenya. Lewa offers spectacular scenery, superb game viewing and a wide variety of activities such as game walks and horse riding. With wildlife densities as high as anywhere in Africa, it is possible to see all of Africa’s Big Five here, and the conservancy provides a refuge for several endangered species such as Wide Rhinos.

Day: 5-8 Lamu

Morning Flight Lewa – Nairobi (ca. 1 hour), afternoon Flight Nairobi - Lamu (ca. 1.5 hours), boat transfer to lodge (20-30 min)

Set in an archipelago of coral-fringed islands, swaying palm trees and aromas of spices unknown, Lamu is possibly one of the most relaxing places on earth. Lamu is also the name given to the only town on the island and you will soon find that nothing much happens here in a hurry. A trading town for hundreds of years between Arabia and India buying and selling spices and ivory has produced a vibrant culture known as Swahili.

With its combination of protected channels and deserted beaches, Lamu is the ultimate dream destination for those seeking a true desert-island holiday. It offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a coastal culture unchanged for centuries. During your stay in the Lamu you can enjoy swimming in the calm waters of the Lamu channel, explore historic Lamu town, snorkel amongst the many close by reefs or swim with dolphins. The people of the small local villages show you their ancient boat-building techniques take you prawn netting or for an unforgettable early morning fishing trip in their ancient dhows. During the months of October to June it is possible to see green turtles come to the beach to lay their eggs.

Accommodation: Manda Bay or Kizingo

Day: 9-10 Lamu

Sailing from Lamu to Kiwayu

At 97 foot long, Sanjeeda is the latest in a direct line of seagoing vessels of a design which came to the Indian Ocean with Vasco Da Gama in 1498. It has 6 cabins and is staffed by a fully trained and licenced Captain and Crew, and Master Chef, stewards and barman.
Awake to the music of tropical African birdlife, hot sunshine and a warm breeze rustling the tall palms and cruise leisurely amongst the tropical islets, anchoring in quiet coves and creeks for sunning, swimming, snorkeling and lunch. With the guidance of the Captain, you can plot the best mooring for the night. The evening can be as lively or as quiet as you choose, with the option of music during a sumptuous seafood candlelit dinner, and the Sanjeeda bar is open all day.

Accommodation: Yacht (one night in Lamu Town, one night offshore)

Day: 11-14 Kiwayu

Kiwayu Island is the most remote and pristine island in the Lamu Archipelago in the far north of the Kenyan coast. White coral and virgin beaches stretch for miles, with crystal clear water at all times. Snorkeling over a myriad of unspoilt coral reefs, wind surfing, laser sailing, water skiing, picnics, deep-sea fishing and exploring the mangrove forests, caves and coves are all available. Dolphins and whales are seen regularly off the coast of Kiwayu, moving in shoals across the ocean. There are also two villages on the Island that can be visited and allow an authentic experience of contemporary coastal life. The mainland hosts an abundance of game and borders on the Boni and Dodori game reserves and guests can have a break from their their island experience with game drives or walks on the mainland.
