Accommodation: Macushla House or Kiambethu Tea Farm

Day: 2 - 6 Rift Valley

Morning drive from Nairobi to the edge of the Rift Valley (ca. 45 min)

Trek with Maasai warriors – enjoy the spectacular views as you follow the Ewaso Ngiro River Gorge as it descends into the Rift Valley, before cutting out into the plains on the Rift Valley floor. Walk to the dormant Volcano Mt Suswa and discover its complex caldera system and lava caves. Walk over the Rift Valley plains past Mt Longonit to the mouth of Hells Gate National Park and experience this dramatic park on foot or by bike

Accommodation: Mobile Camps

Day: 7 - 9 Masai Mara

Transfer to Naivasha Airstrip (ca. 1 hour), Flight Naivasha - Masai Mara (ca. 1 hour)

The Masai Mara – endless seas of golden grass dotted with hesitant shrubs, broken here and there with the ghostly acacia trees and ringed by distant hills, the chocolate Mara river waters with frolicking hippos, immensely rich animal life including countless game and large prides of lions – fulfils the expectations of any visitor searching the African landscapes portrayed in movies such as "Out of Africa". From July to October, this is the sight of one of the most spectacular and dramatic sites on earth - the annual migration of one million wildebeests and 200,000 zebras following the seasonal rains in a quest for the best pastures, finding along the way the crocodile-crowded river.

Accommodation: Basecamp Explorer or Offbeat Mara Camp

Day: 10 - 11 Zanzibar

Morning Flight Masai Mara – Nairobi (ca. 45min), Afternoon Flight Nairobi - Zanzibar (ca. 1.5 hours)

Stone Town is the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar, little changed in the last 200 years. It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses whose original owners vied with each other over the extravagance of their dwellings which is particularly reflected in the brass-studded, carved, wooden doors. You can spend many idle hours and days just wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways.

Accommodation: Tembo Hotel or Beyt al Aman

Day: 12 - 15

Pemba

Morning Flight Zanzibar – Pemba (ca. 45min), Transfer to lodge (ca. 1.5 hours)

Enjoy a real Robinson Crusoe experience on one of three yachts permanently moored in a beautiful lagoon in the northern end of Pemba Island. Beautiful sceneries, idyllic getaway and relaxing feel. Basic and rustic accommodation, most nights on the deck of the yacht under the stars. Pemba is seldom visited and very laid-back and the island offers an intriguing, largely undiscovered culture and spectacular diving. The surrounding Islands, many of which are uninhabited and have tantalising white beaches beckon to be explored.

Accommodation: Pemba Afloat

Day: 16 Dar es Salaam

Transfer to airstrip (ca. 1.5 hours), flight from Pemba via Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam (ca. 45 min)

Located in a quiet bay off the Indian Ocean coast, Dar es Salaam has become a prosperous centre of the entire East African region. Its bustling harbour is the main port in Tanzania and a visit to the daily fish market is a memorable experience.

Remnants of colonial presence, both German and British, can still be seen in the landmarks and architecture around the city. The National Museum, the Village Museum, and many colourful markets are well worth a visit. Numerous historical landmarks, including St. Joseph’s Cathedral, the White Father’s Mission House, the Botanical Gardens, and the old State House make for an interesting walking tour around the waterfront and city centre.

Enjoy a memorable good bye dinner at one of Dar es Salaam’s diverse restaurants before you transfer to the International Airport for departure.
