Aberdares |
| Drive to Aberdares
(ca. 2 hours)
The Aberdares offer striking mountain
scenery - a mix of the alps combined
with stretches of dense jungle and
amazing waterfalls, with the largest
a stunning 300m plunge. You can also
see lots of animals as the park has
a high concentration of buffaloes,
elephants, hyenas and the rare bongo
antelope. You can relax while fishing
at the lovely streams, explore the
waterfalls on foot and climb Lesatima
Peak, with 4000 metres the highest
point of the Aberdares and a good
acclimatisation hike to prepare you
for Mt Kenya.
Accommodation: Fishing Lodge

| Day: 4 - 7 |
Mt Kenya |
| Drive to base
of Mt Kenya (2-4 hours, depending
on hiking route)
Mount Kenya is located on the equator
and is Kenya’s highest mountain.
With magnificent cliffs and glaciers
protecting the highest peaks of Nelion
(5188m) and Batian (5199m) it makes
for a spectacular technical climb.
The third highest summit - Point Lenana,
(4985m) - is also glaciated but accessible
to walkers.
Discover the tarns and alpine meadows;
exotic, equatorial, high-altitude
vegetation; sunbirds, hyrax and soaring
eagles which make the hike up to Point
Lenana or around the peaks one of
the most beautiful expeditions in
the East African mountains. For serious
mountaineers, the climb to Nelion
and Batian can also be arranged.
Accommodation: Mountain huts
and tents

| Day:8 - 10 |
Laikipia |
| Drive from
Mt Kenya to Laikipia (2-3 hours)
The Laikipia plateau in central Kenya
is one of the last stronghold of romantic
East Africa - vast open ranches, shadowed
by snow-capped Mount Kenya, dusty
plains and verdant grasslands, interspersed
with rocky hills, home to diverse
communities including the Maasai and
Samburu. It is home to more endangered
mammals than anywhere else in East
Africa, protecting half of Kenya’s
black rhino. The region also has large
herds of elephant and wild dog, leopard,
lion, cheetah and other predators
hunting the plentiful game. You can
enjoy game drives, bush walks and
great horse riding safaris or simply
retreat from the world. One option
is to stay at a lodge that is owned,
run and hosted by the local Maasai
which will allow you to get close
to their everyday life.
Accommodation: Borana or
Il N’gwesi Lodge

| Day: 11 - 12 |
Lake
Baringo & Bogoria |
| Drive Laikipia
– Lake Baringo (3-4 hours)
Lake Bogoria has achieved fame as
the "new home of flamingos",
with a migrant population of up to
two million birds. The reserve offers
plenty of wildlife apart from flamingos
including leopard and is one of few
parks in Kenya accessible on foot
and bike.
Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake
and with its picturesque islands and
encircling mountains is a spectacular
sight. The lake has a lot of fish
and consequently many herons, cormorants
and marabus can be found here. On
Gibraltar Island, a birders paradise,
are breeding more Goliath herons then
anywhere else in East Africa. Bird
walks and boat rides are the most
popular activities around Lake Baringo
but cultural tours to local villages
can be arranged as well.
Accommodation: Samatian Island
or Island Camp Baringo

| Day: 13 -14 |
Lake Nakuru |
| Drive Lake Bogoria
– Lake Nakuru (ca. 2 hours)
Lake Nakuru is one of the alkaline
Rift Valley lakes with its shores
populated at times by more than one
million flamingos which has been called
"the greatest bird spectacle
on earth". Game drives offer
you the opportunity to get as close
as ten meters to this spectacle and
to see elephants, giraffe, rhino and
the elusive tree climbing lions. Enjoy
the variety of wildlife combined with
its striking and varied landscapes
- driving through the savannah, passing
by the lake and the swamps and negotiating
the rocky path up to the baboon cliffs
with their stunning views across the
entire park will create a sense of
wonder and admiration in even the
most travelled visitor.
Accommodation: Lake Nakuru
Lion Hill Lodge or Naishi House
