Day: 1 Arrival in Nairobi

Welcome to Enchanting-Africa! Our tour manager will receive you at the airport in Nairobi and take you to your hotel for check in.

Explore Nairobi, the safari capital of Africa and a city that never seems to sleep. Experience one of the lively and colourful street markets, the fantastic music scene and one of the many excellent restaurants. Alternatively, discover the Karen Blixen museum, giraffe centre where you can feed giraffes or venture into Nairobi National Park, just outside town, with its cliffs and forests and large herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Giraffe and more.

Accommodation: Giraffe Manor or Ngong House

Day: 2 - 5 Laikipia

Morning Flight Nairobi – Laikipia via Nanyuki (ca. 1.5 hours)

The Laikipia plateau in central Kenya is one of the last stronghold of romantic East Africa - vast open ranches, shadowed by snow-capped Mount Kenya, dusty plains and verdant grasslands, interspersed with rocky hills, home to diverse communities including the Maasai and Samburu. It is home to more endangered mammals than anywhere else in East Africa, protecting half of Kenya's black rhino. The region also has large herds of elephant and wild dog, leopard, lion, cheetah and other predators hunting the plentiful game. You can explore this remote area on game drives, bush walks, camel rides and fantastic horse riding safaris or simply retreat from the world and enjoy the stunning views from your lodge.

Accommodation: Olentille or Loisaba

Day: 6 - 8 Meru

Flight Laikipia - Meru (ca. 1 hour)

Only few visitors come to Meru which enhances its stunning scenic beauty, watered by many small rivers which are shaded by dense riverine forest and stands of raphia and doum palms. In this remote area Joy and George Adamson reared the lioness Elsa which was set free here and became famous through the movie “Born Free”. When you land on the tiny airstrip in the midst of the African bush you may disturb a cheetah or big-eared bull elephant that charges away in startled surprise - a promise of what lays ahead.

Accommodation: Elsa's Kopje or Offbeat Meru Camp

Day: 9 - 13 Funzi Island

Flight Meru – Nairobi (ca. 1 hour), flight Nairobi – Mombasa (ca. 45 min), Helicopter transfer to Funzi Island (20 min)

Tucked away on a pristine island in the Indian Ocean, Funzi Island appeals for its luxurious seclusion and beautiful scenery. Surrounded by water and superbly located on a west-facing beach with glorious views of the African sunset, this remote and exclusive hideaway is the perfect place to escape from the outside world in style.

Life at Funzi Island is relaxed and many guests do little more than unwind on the wooden deck of the free-form pool with a drink while watching the local fishing dhows sail by. If you are more energetic, you can enjoy sailing, creekfishing, windsurfing and canoeing or perhaps taking a boat trip for a memorable glimpse of kingfishers, crocodiles and even dolphins.

Accommodation: Funzi Keys or Funzi Island Camp

Day: 14 -16

Lamu

Transfer from Funzi Island to Mombasa (ca. 2 hours), Flight Mombasa – Lamu (ca. 45 min), transfer to hotel (ca. 20 min)

Set in an archipelago of coral-fringed islands, swaying palm trees and aromas of spices unknown, Lamu is possibly one of the most relaxing places on earth. Lamu is also the name given to the only town on the island and you will soon find that nothing much happens here in a hurry. A trading town for hundreds of years between Arabia and India buying and selling spices and ivory has produced a vibrant culture known as Swahili. Established in the 14th century, Lamu is the oldest surviving Swahili town in Kenya, which explains why the streets are only wide enough for donkeys and pedestrians.

In the evenings the aroma of thick Turkishlike coffee permeates the atmosphere; old men sit together philosophizing on the front steps of their houses, and little boys chase one another, darting in and out of quaint shops that line the main street.

Accommodation: Baytil Ajaib or Peponi Hotel

Day: 17 Nairobi

Flight Lamu - Nairobi (ca. 1.5 hours)

Enjoy a memorable good bye dinner at one of Nairobi's great restaurants before you transfer to International Airport for departure.
