A place of endless skies, dust-red plains and palm-fringed rivers, Samburu National Reserves lies on the fringes of the vast, arid desert, once known as the Northern Frontier District. It is a great place to see large herds of elephant, who roam the hills during the day before returning to bathe on the banks of the river in the evening.

Samburu National Park also provides one of the few sanctuaries in Kenya for the endangered Grevy’s zebra and the rare Beisa oryx.
Enjoy wonderful game drives and, outside the national park, also walking safaris and visits to remote villages of the Samburu tribesmen.

Accommodation: Elephant Bedroom or Saruni Samburu

Sangare Ranch is very picturesque, and consists of wooded ravines, open meadows, dense thickets and meandering crystal clear streams. It is part of Laikipia in central Kenya, one of the last strongholds of romantic East Africa - vast ranches and private game reserves shadowed by snow-capped Mount Kenya. It is home to more endangered mammals than anywhere else in East Africa, protecting half of Kenya’s black rhino.

Enjoy bush walks on the ranch. In addition, you have the opportunity for horse riding safaris

Accommodation: Sandai or Sangare Lakeside Tented Camp

One moment you find yourself only meters away from the lake shore and hundreds of thousands of flamingos, the next moment you are in dense forest amidst a troop of baboons, on a clearing you suddenly encounter rare rhinos and on top of a sheer cliff you marvel at the birds’ eye perspective of the lake and the flamingos which from up here will appear to you like a pink cover on top of the lake.

During these months, you might be lucky enough to catch a dramatic river crossing, as these animals swim for their lives across the crocodile-infested Mara River. In addition to exciting game drives, the conservation areas surrounding the Masai Mara also offer the opportunity for beautiful bush walks and visits to Masai villages and to the colourful market in Aitong.
