The Masai Mara fulfils the dreams of any visitor searching for an amazing safari experience. The iconic African landscapes - endless seas of golden grass dotted with picturesque acacia trees - are home to cheetah, leopard, large prides of lions, elephants, giraffe, hyena, huge Nile crocodiles, frolicking hippos and many other species.

Wildlife viewing in the Mara is fantastic all year round, and, from August to October, it is the sight of one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences on earth - the annual migration of close to two million wildebeest and zebra following the seasonal rains in a quest for fresh grass. During these months, you might be lucky enough to catch a dramatic river crossing, as these animals swim for their lives across the crocodile-infested Mara River.

In addition to exciting game drives, the conservation areas surrounding the Masai Mara also offer the opportunity for beautiful bush walks and visits to Masai villages and to the colorful market in Aitong.

On the first day you will head from the Masai Mara for the Loita Hills. After breakfast you leave the camp with game viewing en-route. A 3 hour drive through scenic rolling hills and past small villages will bring you into the heart of the Loita Hills.
A one hour walk through the beautiful highland scenery takes you to your fly camp where you will spend the first night. Enjoy the evening at the open fire under the incredible African sky, hear the sounds of the African bush at night. The staff ensure that you are well looked after and you are provided with cold drinks, freshly prepared meals at a well set fly camp with shower and toilet tents. You will sleep on a comfortable camp bed in a large dome tent.

Set out early the following morning together with your Masai Crew and your experienced guide and discover a stunning waterfall that plunges more than 200 meters into a natural pool surrounded by dense tropical vegetation. A three hour hike will bring you to the bottom of the waterfall – enjoy a refreshing swim - if you are adventurous – right under the waterfall.
On the third day, your trek leads through dense tropical forest and later through more open terrain. After about 6 hours you will get to a river where you spend the night in a fly camp.
On the fourth day, the day hike continues through beautiful forest before descending to the edge of the Nguruman escarpment from where you have great views of the Rift Valley far below. You can spend the afternoon swimming to cool off and exploring the bushes around the campsite. In the evening the crew may show you traditional Maasai songs and dances.

Accommodation: Private Bush Camps

Lake Magadi
Days 8 - 10
The last day of the trek starts early in order to beat the heat of the day and to enjoy the sunrise over the plains below. Your final 3 to 4 hour walk takes you down the escarpment into the bottom of the Rift Valley and to a river, which has plenty of clean and fresh water. Your car will be waiting for you and take you to the amazing Shompole Lodge for a truly spoiling and pampering experience, a rewarding treat after crossing the Loitas.

Driving towards Lake Natron is an unforgettable experience in itself. Enjoy the spectacular views of the dramatic Rift Valley and you will have the sensation of driving to the centre of the earth ... while the air temperature gets hotter every minute and you glide through the arid and moonlike landscape of the Rift Valley escarpment, you come to think that this journey will never end - and you don't want it to end as it gives you an exhilirating sensation of freedom.

Beyond Magadi Town which has the atmosphere of a gold rush settlement the journey turns into a real adventure - the track is hardly visible any longer as so few cars pass through here, out of nowhere a group of Maasai jump in front of your vehicle asking for a ride and close to Lake Natron you have to either cross a lengthy stretch of tricky sand or a swamp where the water often spills over the hood of your car.Your stay in this part of the Rift Valley will add to the sensation of being at the end of the world - not quite incorrect as hardly anybody passes through this area except the local Maasai and the occasional shifter smuggling goods over to Tanzania. Sunrises over the dry Rift Valley are deeply moving moments and a sensation of peace and tranquility will eventually let all worries of the world seem far away.
