Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda is part of the Virunga Mountains protected area, which includes Mgahinga National Park in Uganda and Virunga National Park in Congo. The area is home to around 320 highly endangered Mountain Gorillas, a half of the world’s population.

A group of ranger will guide you up the slopes of the volcanoes to one of the gorilla families which will take between one and three hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Sitting face to face with a 160kg silverback in the impenetrable rain-forest is a one of a lifetime experience and certainly one of the highlights of every trip to Uganda and Rwanda.

Located at Rwanda’s geographical heart, Kigali is built in hilly country, sprawling across several hills and ridges and the valleys in between. Kigali retains the feel of a garden-city, the compact, low-rise city centre surrounding a busy, colourful market. The genocide memorial close to the city centre is well worth a visit and will give you a deeper understanding of the country’s recent history.

Accommodation: Kigali Serena

A scenic flight from Kigali over Lake Victoria takes you across the border to Tanzania and into the wilderness of the Serengeti (3-4 hours).

The Serengeti is the jewel in the crown of Tanzania's parks and undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world. With countless predators including lion, cheetah and leopard, more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson's gazelle, and a quarter of a million zebra, it has the greatest concentration of wildlife on our planet.

The wildebeest and zebra moreover form the star cast of a unique spectacular - the annual migration.
Between late December and March, you will be able to witness the great migration of more than 1 million wildebeest and zebra during the spectacular calving season. Between May and July you might be lucky to witness the fascinating spectacle of thousands of Wildebeest and Zebras crossing the crocodile infested Grumeti River together with their new born. From August to October, they move to the remote Northern Serengeti crossing the Mara River which is equally populated with giant Nile crocodiles.
