Big game and undiscovered Western Kenya
Nairobi - Lake Nakuru - Nandi Hills - Kakamega Forest - Lake Victoria - Masai Mara – Nairobi
Day 1 Lake Nakuru
Delhi

Enjoy scenic drive with breathtaking views of the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru (3 hours).

Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley lakes, its shores populated at times by more than one million flamingos. This enormous, colourful population has been called, "the greatest bird spectacle on earth". Game drives offer the opportunity to get very close to the flamingos, and to see some of the parks other residents, such as elephants, giraffe, and rhino. Nakuru will create a sense of wonder and admiration in even the most well-travelled visitor

Accommodation:Flamingo Hill Camp or Lakira Camp
Day 2 - 3: Nandi Hills
Delhi

Today, you will cross the Rift Valley and pass the picturesque tea plantations around Kericho (4-5 hours)

The Nandi Hills are great towering hills that line both sides of the road as it winds its way to higher elevation, providing beautiful views of the countryside – tin-roofed houses, traditional huts, bright green tea farms on the edge of little, dark green forests with their tall gum trees.

As you drive down and away from the tea plantations of Kericho, you will see more breathtaking scenery – the lush green escarpment, with sugar cane below, and tea above, and finally, mountains overlooking jungle-like ravines. The views during this part of the drive are magnificent, and sometimes you can even see Lake Victoria. Travelling through the Nandi Hills is one the most spectacular trips in Kenya.

Enjoy relaxing days with walks and horseback excursions through the beautiful landscapes, try your luck on the Nandi golf course and discover rural African life when passing through rarely visited villages.

Accommodation: Kweisos
Day 4 -5 : Kakamega Forest
Agra

Drive on winding country lanes through the hilly countryside with beautiful tea plantations and small villages to Kakamega Forest, one of Africa’s few remaining virgin tropical rainforests (2-3 hours)

Kakamega Forest National Reserve is the only tropical rainforest in Kenya and could well be one of the remnants of the vast forest that once stretched across the girth of Africa from the Congo Basin. The forest includes some of Africa's greatest hard and soft woods and splendid orchids sitting amongst the branches of the larger trees. Walking beneath the lush forest canopy, the deep shade is pierced by flashes of colour, exotic birdcalls, the scents of wood, flower and moss.

There are diverse trails through the forest that you can explore together with a guide. The forest is home to a huge variety of animals, birds and reptiles. Here you will find black and white Colobus monkeys, red tailed monkey, potto, bush baby, tree pangolin and the occasional leopard. Furthermore, 350 species of bird, many of which are stunningly colourful, have been recorded

Accommodation: Rondo Retreat
Day 6 - 8 : Lake Victoria
Agra

Drive on through the fertile and densely populated countryside of Western Kenya, past small villages. The last part of your journey will be by ferry or boat, a great way to get introduced to Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest fresh water body.

Shared by the 3 countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, Lake Victoria is the second widest fresh water lake in the world. The western part of Kenya that borders the lake is home to a vibrant fishing culture. Here you will encounter small fishing villages with tin-roofed huts, brightly painted traditional fishing boats lining the beach, and curious, friendly children.

The Kenyan part is the most beautiful of Lake Victoria’s shore, a picturesque contrast of towering, rolling hills and white sandy beaches with swaying palm trees that meet the shimmering expanse of the lake waters. The lake itself is a biological “hotspot”, with a great diversity of bird and fish species.

Enjoy relaxing days in beautiful scenic surroundings, discover the lake and its many islands on boat excursions and visit small fishing virtually untouched by tourism. If you feel adventurous, you may even hike along the ridges of the mountains rising from Lake Victoria and take in the stunning views from their peaks or join local Omena fishermen on their nightly fishing trips, a memorable experience that will help you to get close to an age old way of life.

Accommodation: Lake Victoria Safari Village or Mfangano Island
Day 9 - 11: Masai Mara
Delhi

Travel along the shores of Lake Victoria through fertile land, which slowly turns into the open savannah of the game-rich Masai Mara. (5-6 hours).

The Masai Mara fulfils the dreams of any visitor searching for an amazing safari experience. The iconic African landscapes, endless seas of golden grass dotted with picturesque acacia trees, are home to cheetah, leopard, large prides of lions, elephants, giraffe, hyena, huge Nile crocodiles, frolicking hippos and many other species.

Wildlife viewing in the Mara is fantastic all year round, and, from August to October it is the sight of one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences on earth - the annual migration of close to two million wildebeests and zebras following the seasonal rains in a quest for the best pastures. During these months, you can witness the dramatic crossings of thousands of wildebeest and zebra over the crocodile-infested Mara river.

While you will see most animals on game drives, the conservation areas surrounding the Masai Mara also offer the opportunity for beautiful bush walks and visits to a Maasai village and to colourful local markets.

Accommodation: Mara Siria Camp or Leleshwa Camp
Day 12 : Nairobi

Enjoy a last day on safari before flying back to Nairobi for your onward journey or for your flight back home.
