Cultural Encounters:

From Lake Victoria to the mountain gorillas of Rwanda
Lake Victoria - Jinja - Lake Bunyonyi - Volcanos - Kigali
Day 1: Entebbe

Welcome to Enchanting-Africa! Your guide will meet you at the airport in Entebbe, take you to your hotel and assist you with the check in.

Depending on your arrival time, discover Entebbe on Lake Victoria. You can take a 2-3 hours’ walk through the Botanical garden of Entebbe to get a first look at the wonderful flora and bird life of Uganda.

Accommodation:Entebbe Airport Guest House or The Boma Guest House
Day 2 - 4: Jinja & Nile

Drive through Uganda’s capital city Kampala, past small villages and fields to Jinja at the source of the Nile (2-3 hours)

Enjoy a boat excursion to the source of the Nile and get a glimpse at every day African life when walking through small villages where you may be invited to lunch in the house of your guide.

For the adventurous, Jinja is the East African counterpart to more southerly ‘adrenaline capitals’ such as Victoria Falls and Cape Town. Bujagali is the launching point for a white-water rafting route that ranks as one of most thrilling but also one of the safest in the world, passing through five heart-stopping Grade Five rapids in one day. Other activities include kayaking, mountain biking, quad-biking and a new 44 metre-high bungee jump from a cliff above the Nile.

Accommodation: Gately on the Nile or The Haven
Day 5 - 6: Lake Bunyonyi

Today, your journey takes you halfway through Uganda to scenic Lake Bunyonyi (6-7 hours) which is surrounded by steep sided heavily cultivated mountainous scenery and is dotted with 29 islands. It is up to 900m deep, making it the second deepest lake in Africa. The scenery is very picturesque and makes for a good change and rest on a longer safari. The lake surface is fresh, bilharzia-free and safe for swimming which is popular as are boat and dugout canoe excursions.

The word "Lake Bunyonyi" means 'the place of many little birds' and bird life is prolific with Uganda's national bird the Crested Crane a common sighting. Fish on the other hand are extremely scarce. The weekly Rutindo market is a colourful attracting flotillas of canoes across the lake with basket loads of vegetables and other goods.

Accommodation: Bushara Island Camp
Day 7 - 8: Volcanos

Drive on to the Ugandan/Rwandan border (4-5 hours), from where it is only a short 1 hour drive to Volcanos National Park.

Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda is part of the Virunga Mountains protected area, which includes Mgahinga National Park in Uganda and Virunga National Park in Congo. The area is home to around 320 highly endangered Mountain Gorillas, a half of the world’s population.

A group of ranger will guide you up the slopes of the volcanoes to one of the gorilla families which will take between one and three hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Sitting face to face with a 160kg silverback in the impenetrable rain-forest is a one of a lifetime experience and certainly one of the highlights of every trip to Uganda and Rwanda.

Accommodation: Le Palme or Gorilla Mountain View
Day 9: Kigali

Today, you will experience why Rwanda is also called “the land of 1000 hills” as you drive through its scenic countryside to the Capital Kigali for your flight home or your onward journey.
