Highlights of Africa
Kigali - Volcanos - Masai Mara - Lower Zambezi - Victoria Falls - Cape Town
Day 1 - 2 Volcanos
Delhi

Start your journey in Kigali and experience why Rwanda is also called “the land of 1000 hills” as you drive through its scenic countryside to Volcanoes National Park (2 hours).

Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda is part of the Virunga Mountains protected area, which includes Mgahinga National Park in Uganda and Virunga National Park in Congo. The area is home to around 320 highly endangered Mountain Gorillas, a half of the world’s population.

A group of ranger will guide you up the slopes of the volcanoes to one of the gorilla families which will take between one and three hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Sitting face to face with a 160kg silverback in the impenetrable rain-forest is a one of a lifetime experience and certainly one of the highlights of every trip to Uganda and Rwanda.

Accommodation: : Gorilla Mountain View or Sabyinyo Silverback
Day 3 : Nairobi

After a relaxed morning with stunning views of the volcanos, you head back to Kigali and take an onward flight to Nairobi.

Nairobi is the economic hub and largest city in East Africa. Apart from being a convenient starting point for most safaris in Kenya, Nairobi is also a great place to experience contemporary urban African life. Discover the colourful street markets, take in the sights, sounds and smells as you walk through the bustling down town, enjoy the views from one of the city’s high rises, try authentic African cuisine or one of the excellent international restaurants and immerse yourself in Nairobi’s nightlife.

You can also visit the excellent National Museum and explore Kenya’s historic roots on a visit to Karen Blixen Museum in the leafy suburb of Karen. If your main interests are animals, Nairobi also has a lot to offer - you can feed giraffe in the Giraffe Centre and get very close to baby elephants, cheetah and other orphaned animals in the David Sheldrick Centre and animal orphanage.

At the doorstep of Nairobi lie the Ngong Hills, which are great for afternoon walks and spectacular sundowners, and Nairobi National Park, the only place in the world where you can see lions and other wildlife in their natural habitat against the backdrop of city skyscrapers.

Accommodation: Fairview or Palacina
Day 4 - 6 : Masai Mara

Take a scenic morning flight to the Masai Mara (1 hour) which gives you a wonderful bird’s eye perspective of the breathtaking Rift Valley.

The Masai Mara fulfils the dreams of any visitor searching for an amazing safari experience. The iconic African landscapes - endless seas of golden grass dotted with picturesque acacia trees - are home to cheetah, leopard, large prides of lions, elephants, giraffe, hyena, huge Nile crocodiles, frolicking hippos and many other species.

Wildlife viewing in the Mara is fantastic all year round, and, from August to October, it is the sight of one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences on earth - the annual migration of close to two million wildebeest and zebra following the seasonal rains in a quest for fresh grass. During these months, you might be lucky enough to catch a dramatic river crossing, as these animals swim for their lives across the crocodile-infested Mara River.

In addition to exciting game drives, the conservation areas surrounding the Masai Mara also offer the opportunity for beautiful bush walks and visits to Masai villages and to the colorful market in Aitong.

Accommodation: Kicheche Bush Camp or Rekero Camp
Day 7 : Lusaka

After a last morning game drive or bush walk, you take a flight back to Nairobi and continue your journey with a flight to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.

Lusaka is one of the fastest-growing cities in central Africa with a sprawling, unplanned metropolis with many multi-storey buildings, high-walled suburbs, busy shanty towns and fast-growing industrial development that has brought together people of many nationalities, making it a bustling centre for economic, political and cultural activities. The markets are a hive of activity.

Accommodation: Cresta Golf View

Day 8 - 10 : Lower Zambezi

From the capital Lusaka, a short flight takes you to Lower Zambezi.

Lower Zambezi National Park is still relatively undeveloped and offers a great opportunity to get close to the wildlife wandering in and out of the Zambezi channels. Enormous herds of elephant, some up to 100 strong, are often seen at the rivers edge. ‘Island hopping’ buffalo and waterbuck are common and the park also hosts good populations of lion, leopard and fish eagle.

The Zambezi River is the lifeline of the park and its edger are overhung with a thick riverine fringe. Further inland is a floodplain fringed with mopane forest and interspersed with Acacia trees. The hills which form the backdrop to the park are covered in woodland and, together with the escarpment along the northern end which acts as a physical barrier to most of the parks animal species.

Enjoy wonderful game drives, bush walks and boat and canoeing safaris on the Zambezi River.

Accommodation: Kanyemba Island Lodge or Kasaka River Lodge

Day 11 - 12 : Victoria Falls

Continue your journey by air to the mighty Victoria Falls. Known as the Smoke that Thunders by the Kololo tribe living in the area two centuries ago, Victoria Falls is the seventh wonder of the world. Columns of spray can be seen from miles away, over a width of nearly two kilometres into a deep gorge over 100 meters below. The wide basalt cliff, over which the falls thunder, transforms the Zambezi from a wide placid river to a ferocious torrent cutting through a series of dramatic gorges.

Facing the Falls is another sheer wall of basalt, rising to the same height and capped by mist-soaked rain forest. A path along the edge of the forest provides guests with an unparalleled series of views of the Falls. One special vantage point is across the Knife edge bridge, where you can have the finest view of the Eastern Cataract and the main falls as well as the boiling pot where the river turns and heads down the Batoka Gorge. Other vantage points include the falls bridge and the lookout tree which commands a panoramic view across the main falls.

Accommodation: Maramba or Tongabezi

Day 13 - 15 : Cape Town

Today, you take a flight via Johannesburg to Cape Town, the final highlight of your journey.

Cape Town, South Africa's most popular travel destination has rightfully earned its reputation as one of the world's most beautiful cities. Transfixed between Table Mountain and seven spectacular ocean beaches, magnificent mountains and superlative wine lands, it is a rare blend of cosmopolitan sophistication and African culture.

Enjoy a tour of Cape Town, Table Mountain or The Castle, South Africa's oldest building. Enjoy the Company Gardens, a scenic tour past the Parliament Buildings, City Hall and Slave Lodge, the historic Malay Quarter and the colourful Bo-Kaap or experience a diamond cutting tour. Other activities include scuba diving to come close to Great White sharks, a visit to Robben Island to see the prison Nelson Mandela was kept captive in, or a visit the local townships.

Accommodation: Cape Milner or Bay Hotel

Day 16 : Cape Town

Enjoy a last day exploring Cape Town and its scenic surroundings before taking your flight back home.
